BlueShore Insurance Company & VerCap Management LLC needs an Accountant.

DriveTime's family of companies, BlueShore Insurance Company & VerCap Management LLC are seeking an Accountant. An exciting opportunity in Dallas, Texas for an accountant to work with a property & casualty insurance company, BlueShore Insurance Company, and to also work with a single-family office investment management firm, VerCap Management. VerCap invests across multiple asset classes including liquid private credit and allocations to investment funds. This unique position will have dual reporting through each business unit; both of which are overseen by a Chief Accounting Officer. The position will be responsible for a wide range of accounting, cash management and operational functions.

The Role.

Seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented, positive, and analytical accountant to become an integral part of a small, close-knit team. With a strong working knowledge of GAAP accounting and in particular insurance and/or investment accounting, the ideal candidate will be flexible and resourceful. The working environment will be lean and entrepreneurial, and a willingness to learn and grow will be essential.

The accountant position is responsible for understanding specialized accounting concepts required to maintain the general ledger and ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and statutory accounting practices.

Accountant Duties:

  • Responsible for daily accounting functions and month end close process including preparation of general ledger account reconciliations and journal entries (claims, earnings, billings, etc.)

  • Maintain general ledger and analyze to ensure accurate and relevant information.

  • Identify areas of opportunity to increase efficiencies within current processes and assist in or initiate process improvements.

  • Assisting with preparation of GAAP and Statutory financial statements.

  • Direct communication with and preparation of schedules and workpapers for auditors, investment advisors, brokers, tax firms and actuaries.

  • Assist with preparation of quarterly and annual insurance filings and schedules. Candidate expected to learn insurance reporting software.

  • Assist with preparing monthly and quarterly reports that provide management accurate information to support decision making.

  • Act as liaison between accounting function and other business units.

Operational and Cash Management Duties:

  • Setup and maintain brokerage and bank accounts.

  • Responsible for daily accounts payable and cash management functions.

  • Processing of wires in prime brokerage account.

  • Purchase and redemptions of money market trades.

  • Processing public equity and debt security trades with an executing broker.

  • Assist in completing subscription documents for private fund commitments.

  • Process, monitor, and settle syndicated loan trades through Clearpar.

  • Track corporate actions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting (licensed CPA preferred).

  • 2+ years overall experience in accounting (insurance industry or investment accounting a plus).

  • Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); understanding of Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP) a plus.

  • Communication skills and the ability to work in fast-paced environment are essential.

  • Adept at time management and prioritizing appropriately to meet deadlines.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain detailed records.

  • Demonstrate initiative, discipline, and resourcefulness in thinking through issues.

  • Ability to confidently converse with and present to senior management.

  • Innovative, go-getter and desire to spur team growth, while maintaining positive attitude.

  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other accounting systems.
